About Us

Mission Statement

Our fellowship training program in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) aspires to train tomorrow’s leaders in provision of the most effective care, in development of optimal and equitable health care delivery, in research, and in medical education. Our primary training site is at Seattle Children’s, a world class freestanding children’s hospital which is the regional tertiary care provider for pediatric populations in the Pacific Northwest, regardless of ability to pay. We promote training which adheres to the best evidenced-based practices delivered in a compassionate and humanistic manner.

Our broad array of training sites provides a range of clinical experiences to ensure that graduates are well-prepared for any career path. These sites include inpatient and outpatient levels of care, telehealth, community mental health, schools, juvenile detention, and consultation to primary care. Trainees gain expertise in special populations through time spent in our Children’s Autism Center, Eating Disorder Recovery Program, Early Childhood Clinic, Psychosis Program, and Adolescent Substance Abuse Program. Seattle and the greater Pacific Northwest region provide a patient population that is rich in cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic variety. This breadth of training sites and settings allows trainees to further pursue and cultivate personal interests through numerous elective opportunities.

Here at University of Washington and Seattle Children’s, we hope to recruit trainees who are kind and thoughtful practitioners. We aspire to train future child and adolescent psychiatrists who come from wide range of backgrounds, perspectives and passions. Our aim is to train future child and adolescent psychiatrists who are passionate about childhood mental health, who are dedicated to the needs of their patients and the community, who serve as advocates and leaders in the field.

We welcome your interest in our growing and vital training program.
